Archives For Earth

Make 100 Trees is the latest project by London-based designer-artist Margarita Mitrovic. The concept of the project is to make 100 artworks of trees, which will directly fund the planting of 100 real trees.

By depicting each tree in a different style and technique, the artist aims to demonstrate their uniqueness, individuality and most importantly their value to our lives and planet.

The artist explains: “There is superfluous to say that each tree is unique. In my eyes trees are live magic creatures which  have their hands – branches, legs – roots, skin – bark and hair – leaves, but they also have a soul. In my career I have mainly focused on human portraits as a means to represent individual personalities through simple brushstrokes, colour and medium.

In this project, I am creating “portraits” of trees through which  I want to demonstrate their uniqueness and remind people how beautiful those enormous giants are! I use pens, pencils and markers to show the shape of branches and the incredible surface and texture of tree bark. On the other hand I use paint, ink and brushes to represent their density and volume when they are blooming and blossoming.”

The project joins two of Margarita’s greatest passions – Art and Nature, as her favourite activities include creating artworks in her London studio and going for long walks and hikes around the UK and beyond. “Trees are super important for our health and well-being and are vital for the environment and wildlife, but as our planet becomes more urbanised, we are losing forests and trees every day. This is a global issue and I want to use art as a tool to make a positive impact on nature.” – explains Margarita.

Each artwork will be unique and original, created by the artist in a different style and technique on a standard format of 15×15 cm. A hundred works of art (made using pencils, pens, markers, ink, paint, charcoal, fabrics, thread, cardboard, photography, laser cutters, 3D printers and much more) all showing a tree, but all of them individual, just like each tree is. Margarita is launching this project through Kickstarter – a crowdfunding platform, which allows people to gather funds for their creative work.

The crowdfunding will run for a limited period of 35 days (Jan 31st – March 8th), during which people can order an original artwork for £25, an artwork print for £10 or even book an art masterclass with Margarita in her studio. Once the project is complete, an art exhibition of the 100 artworks will be organised in a London gallery, showcasing them to the public before they are sent off to their new owners. Part of the sales profits will be used to plant 100 real trees, thanks to a collaboration with Trees for Cities, a UK charity that is on a mission to plant 1 million trees in UK cities by 2020.

The only sure thing in life is change.
The summer is over, but there are these beautiful and most colourful days ahead that only an autumn wind, rain and sun can create.
The Autumn Equinox is the beginning of the coming into darker days and also the preparation for the winter cold. After the almost perfect balance on the 23-rd of September the days will nicely become shorter and shorter.

Simple chilli beans-easy comfort food

As a woman, who feels very connected to the amount of sun light I feel already the coming autumn, probably you, too.

I am making plans for cooking and lots of baking in the next few weeks. Yesterday I made broccoli and potato soup and also ratatouille in my clay dish in the oven. I had it cooked slowly for about 4 hours.
The changes of the seasons always fascinates me. The circles of life never stop, no matter what. The wheel keeps going and I am so grateful to be here to be a part of this amazing and mystical ride, called life. It is crazy, weird and beautiful all at once.
You are not the same person as you were yesterday, your mind is constantly changing it’s mind and your body is constantly renewing itself till your last breath.

Every season is nice in it’s own way. But autumn is where everything is so colourful and it is also time for comforting nostalgia and cosy blankets.

I love the evenings in autumn in dusk. When it’s still early in the evening, but it’s a bit dark and I am sitting in the living room surrounded by my favourite people, sipping tea and chopping apples and pears.

Today is also a day for balance. Balance between dark and light. I do believe in balance even I don’t try to achieve it. I believe in the invisible balance of things and non things and my role is simply to give love and share my wisdom daily.
Today I want to wish you a Happy Equinox and may wonderful beauty surround you. May the abundance of the season fill not just your homes, but your hearts, too. May you find comfort, warmth and love in the caring presence of the ones you love.

Lots of love,

Be well and enjoy the ride,

Fair Dinkum Seeds is a company who sells home grown, organic seeds of every plant you could need. Our love of gardening is what sparked their interest in starting the company. We are a couple who resides in Queensland, Australia, and we are working on their own personal garden and harvesting seeds every day of the year.

Our company, Fair Dinkum Seeds, has everything from flowers, herbs, vegetables, and everything in between. We wanted to start a business that sells organic and non-modified seeds to the public. When you purchase seeds from a store you never really know what you are getting. They use pesticides and genetically modify seeds, so think about the quality you are receiving when you purchase seeds from a local store. You can be sure that all seeds from Fair Dinkum Seeds are 100% home grown and no chemicals or pesticides are used.

We do all of the hard work themselves and by hand too. We do not use any machinery for sorting or anything else for that matter. We are truly a hard working couple who does what they love to do. We dig all holes by hand, and every plant is hand watered, pruned, picked, harvested, sun-dried, winnowed, sorted, packed up and shipped all by us. We do not sell old seeds and if there are any seeds that don’t sell within 12 months’ time, we just don’t sell them. We give them to friends, use them for compost, or feed them to the birds.

As you can see we have a long list or every plant imaginable and better yet everything you will ever want.
We use blends of different herbs alongside companion planting to control insects, large companies use harsh chemical pesticides. We make our own fertilizer and it is a combination of grasses, legumes, unwanted seeds, mulch, compost, and our own free range chooks and guinea pig manure. As you can see we use only natural things for every step in the growing process. We also grow everything on a 3-6 month rotation all through the year.
Another thing we do differently is plant them during whatever time of the year we want too. Some plants like hot weather and some like cold, but we plant them no matter what they like. We of course have had plenty of losses, but this makes the plants tougher in the long run. So by the time the seeds are ready for selling you can bet they will be tough and should be hard to kill. We know of nobody else that sells seeds and does this method, so we consider our company very unique.
If you are looking for something in particular and you don’t see it in the store, this does not mean we don’t grow it. We may just not have any ready at the moment, but if you would like to request something feel free to contact us and we will try to help you out.
So now that you know the ins and outs of how we work, I am sure you are ready to buy some seeds. You can find us here-
