There are several anti-aging skin care products that are on the market, but how do you know which one(s) are right for you? There are key ingredients that you should look for in those products to make sure you are getting the benefits that you deserve and need to maintain healthy skin. You are never too young to start using skin care products either. Especially if you spend lots of time outdoors playing sports, in a pool or at the lake during the summer. Protecting your skin now will pay off when you are older. So, as you are fishing around for your next anti-aging cream or moisturizer make sure they include the following ingredients.

Broad Spectrum with SPF

Broad spectrum sunscreen SPF 30 or higher will protect you against sun damage and replenish your skin keeping you young and healthy. Broad spectrum provides protection against both Ultraviolet B and A. We are exposed to large amounts of UVA, in fact 95% of our exposure is from UVA and UVA penetrates the skin much more than UVB. However, most sunscreens do not protect you from both ultraviolets. You still need to be protected from UVB. Broad spectrum also specifically protects against aging signs such as wrinkles. It is also recommended that zinc is included because it reflects light.

Alpha Hydroxy Acids

Alpha hydroxy acids are typically found in fruit and milk sugars. Glycolic acid is the most common form of alpha hydroxyl acid and is used in anti-aging creams and lotions because it helps exfoliate your skin. It penetrates the skin removing dead skin making room for new skin cells to grow. This allows new smooth shiny skin to reproduce and prevent the creation of wrinkles and rough skin.

However, please be careful with using too much alpha hydroxyl acids. You can incur a reaction and irritation if you are too sensitive. Watch for redness, itching and pain. If any of this occurs, stop the use of the product and see a doctor.

Antioxidants

Antioxidants are vital to the anti-aging process. They help fight against the damage in your body. Antioxidants help keep your skin, collagen and elastin in good condition. Free radicals cause damage to the cells, so you need antioxidants to help fight against that. This prevents the gaining process from an early age as well.

Niacinamide

Niacinamide is a B3 vitamin that has been known to counteract the effectives of aging. Niacinamide helps increase levels of NADH and NADPH which are essential for cell production and lipid synthesis. These elements help reduce wrinkles, acne, melisma, hyperpigmentation, and skin tone issues. This vitamin has been known to produce significant improvements in wrinkles and acne.

Lipids

Lipids are a crucial part of the skin’s DNA. They play a role in the skin’s barrier function. This means that lipids are responsible for keeping the skin hydrated, firm and soft. As the skin starts to breakdown, wrinkles and rough skin will replace it. Certain creams and lotions will include lipids in their moisturisers to ensure that the barrier of your skin is getting the hydration that it needs.

Retinol

Retinol is a vitamin A that helps promote healthy cells by breaking down free-radicals that cause wrinkles and skin cell damage. Retinol reduces acne breakouts and other pigmentation issues. The ingredients help promote healthy skin creation and fade or improve damaged skin.

Bottom Line

The best anti-aging skin care product will be one with most, if not all, of these ingredients. They all provide a defense mechanism to protect you against damage and help to rejuvenate your skin to a more healthy state.
