I have recently rediscovered avocado. Normally I would have it in the morning in a smoothie, which recipe will give you after I share some amazing facts about this fruit.
This will ensure good quality nutrients. Avocado is an amazingly healthy super food. It has a nutty flavour and a very soft texture. It originates in Mexico and South America and it has been cultivated there for over 7000 years.
Here are some facts about avocado and why you should add it to your diet.
1.Great source of protein. Avocados provide all 18 essential amino acids necessary for the body to form a complete protein. This protein is readily absorbed by the body because avocados also contain fibre.
2. Avocados provide a healthy kind of fat that your body needs. Like olive oil, avocados boost levels of HDL (the “good” cholesterol). HDL cholesterol can help protect against the damage caused by free radicals. This type of cholesterol can prevent diabetes.
3. Avocados are an excellent source of carotenoids. Avocados, also known as alligator pears, offer a diverse range of carotenoids including not only the better-known ones such as beta-carotene, alpha-carotene and lutein but also lesser known varieties of this type of phytonutrients such as neoxanthin, zeaxanthin, chrysanthemaxanthin, neochrome, beta-cryptoxanthin and violaxanthin. Every time you consume foods rich in carotenoids, you deliver high-quality vitamin A to your body, thereby protecting eye health. Carotenoids also enhance the functioning of the immune system and promote healthy functioning of the reproductive system. Since carotenoids are fat soluble, eating avocados optimizes the absorption of these nutrients.
4. The combined effect of the deluxe package of nutrients contained in avocados offers powerful anti-inflammatory benefits. Avocados’ unique combination of Vitamins C and E, carotenoids, selenium, zinc, phytosterols and omega-3 fatty acids helps guard against inflammation. This means avocados can help prevent or mitigate both osteo- and rheumatoid arthritis.
5. Avocados are one of the best anti-ageing foods that prevent wrinkles and skin ageing. The D-manno-heptulose sugar that is found in avocados has been shown to improve the skin epidermis by boosting collagen formation. Avocados also contain specific amino acids and carotenoid anti-oxidants that reduce age spots, soothe inflammation and heals scars and burns.
So I hope that has shined some light on this incredible fruit.
I would normally have it for breakfast as a part of a smoothie.
First, you need to juice pineapple, celery and spinach. When you’ve done that you need a blender. I use a Vitamix, which does a great job, but most blenders will do the work. Pour the juice in the blender and add one avocado and a teaspoon of spirulina. Then blend it for about 30 seconds to a minute or so. Serve on ice and enjoy the fruity freshness.
