Are you feeling autumnal? Craving a pumpkin spice latte already?

The autumnal equinox took place on the 22nd of September here on the Northern Hemisphere. For some people, this is the most wonderful time of the year.

It’s this pre-Halloween mood that creeps amongst us – bright crisp mornings, sometimes frosty and nice gloomy rainy days to enhance our home comforts.

It is also prime time for any coffee shop to sell their Pumpkin Spice Latte. This year Starbucks is going all out and are selling Vegan Pumpkin Spice Latte with Vegan Cream on top. I am looking forward to trying it myself with an extra shot of espresso.

But there is so much more to autumn than fallen leaves, cosy jumpers and soft blankets.

Autumn is about change, mystery, preservation, comfort and moving on and letting go.

Autumn is here to remind us, that the only sure thing in life is change. The leaves are changing colours and are beautifully falling on the ground. Savour the present moment, enjoy what you have before it’s gone.

Autumn is very mysterious. Some days feel like summer and then the next day there is frost on the ground. It’s almost impossible to predict what to expect. It makes us feel strong to know that we are ok with a certain amount of uncertainty.

Autumn is about preservation. An abundant harvest season calls you to find a way to stock up for the winter-blackberries, apples, pears, in some countries grapes, tomatoes and peppers, just to name a few. All these goodies can be preserved for winter. It is a wonderful thing to have some storage of sunshine and sweetness in your kitchen.

Autumn is about comfort. Bring on the warm jumpers and soft fabrics around you. I have a little collection of my own. Reading a book or watching a movie when it’s raining and cold outside is one of the best simple pleasures in life. Now is the time to embrace it.

“[T]hat old September feeling, left over from school days, of summer passing, vacation nearly done, obligations gathering, books and football in the air … Another fall, another turned page: there was something of jubilee in that annual autumnal beginning, as if last year’s mistakes had been wiped clean by summer.” Wallace Stegner

Above all autumn is time for moving on and letting go. Letting go of bad habits, regret, guilt and resentment. It’s not easy to face your own shadow, but that is the only way to accept yourself. Being true to yourself brings incredible peace to your life and it’s worth every effort.
