Today we are celebrating the great power of the Sun . Sol + stice derives from a combination of Latin words meaning “sun” + “to stand still.” As the days lengthen, the sun rises higher and higher until it seems to stand still in the sky.
Unfortunately it has been raining here all day and it is not showing any sings of stopping.I wasn’t able to greet the sun properly. But as always I am celebrating. When I think of Summer Solstice I always think of herbs.
In Bulgaria , where I grew up ,the Summer Solstice is celebrated on the eve of Ehyovden(24th of June) . It’s believed that the herbs gathered on the eve of Enyovden have stronger healing powers than those gathered on any other day of the year. So every year me and mum would go in the forests and collect thyme, rose bush , nettle, chamomile, elder flower, mint and whatever else we can find.
Then we would dry them in the sun and put them in jars to use when needed.I was brought up to believe, that there is a herb for every pain or sickness. There is magic in everything when you want to see it.
Summer is time to collect energy and warmth for the winter. When it’s sunny is best to be out and get as much sun light as possible. I just love to feel the Sun on my skin.Sunlight is one of the most effective healing agents that exists. The Sun is your friend-you exist because of it.It is disturbing, that people are made to believe that they need so called “sun protection” . Sun light is the most crucial biological requirement for the life on Earth. Regular exposure on the Ultra violet sun light controls germs, mites, molds, bacteria and viruses. It has a powerful immune system stimulating effect . Sun light is always life giving and life preserving.
Sending blessings and love
